Sarvangasana, (Shoulderstand) our Mother of all Poses
with Jito Yumibe

July 25 (Saturday)
2:00 – 4:00 pm

In Light on Yoga B.K.S. Iyengar states that “the importance of Sarvangasana cannot be over-emphasized. It is one of the greatest boons conferred on humanity by our ancient sages.” Sarvangasana ( Shoulderstand) is referred to as the Mother of asanas as we nuture our physical, physiological, and emotional health and well-being. It has a special place in the asanas as it cultures a “yogic mind” as  its practice quiets the frontal brain and brings a reflective state of consciousness..

However, for a beginner it takes time before one can experience lightness on the pose and it is easy to get discouraged. This workshop is designed to help overcome discouragement and make progress in this important pose.

We will start with shoulder and arm actions to bring space and strength in the upper body necessary for lightness in the pose. Practicing these preparatory poses is helpful not just for sarvangasana but to alleviate  stiffness in the neck and shoulders.

We will practice different set-ups for the pose and alternative poses that bring a similar quieting effect on the body, mind, and breath. .

This class is appropriate even if you are not familiar with Shoulderstand. Come and learn progressive steps to build the practice of this important pose.
